How Solopreneurs Can Hit the Ground Running
Finding your target audience is a lot like running a race.
For runners, it helps to picture the course, warm up and pace yourself to cross the finish line. When you’re just as intentional about building an audience for your business, your measured steps can lead to winning potential clients and referral sources.
Picture the Course
As a solopreneur, discovering your audience begins with visualizing your ideal client. Who are they, what do they value, what’s going on in their lives, what do they need and what are their pain points? These are just a few questions to ask yourself as you create a client avatar or one-page description of your ideal client’s demographic and psychographic characteristics. Next, you’ll need to figure out where to meet these individuals. Do they attend specific virtual networking groups, community or industry events? What podcasts do they listen to? Who do they trust?
Warm Up and Pace Yourself
Now that you know who you want to reach, it’s time to stretch outside your comfort zone and put yourself in their space. Create opportunities for people to get to know you in different settings. Share your expertise through speaking opportunities, podcasts, blog posts, LinkedIn articles and more. Be consistent as you engage with your audiences. Remember, people need to warm up to you first. Only then, will they consider crossing the finish line to do business with you or share referrals.
